Blogmas day 23 and 24

Hey guys sorry these are late, but I was busy in the run up to Christmas.

On the 23rd it was¬†all about working and picking up the Christmas presents for my grandparents to give to my little cousin, hence a trip to build a bear ( I’ve lost track of total number I’ve made, I have 4 of my own ūüôā¬† ) there was also the case of going to get the food shopping, which if any of you have been shopping this close to Christmas knows this means huge queue’s going well back in to isles from every checkout, which means your standing around for¬† at least half and hour before its your turn. for us this meant getting back really late and having pizza from asda’s deli counter while we wrapped presents.

on the 24th, I got given the day off which came in handy as I had my dads hospital appointment first thing in the morning before racing off and getting last minute presents, luckily we¬†didn’t have many left to buy, raced back to my dads to wrap these last minute presents and get my dad packed ready for his stay with my grandparents. we then played Santa and dropped the presents off as well as picking ours up before heading home for a much needed chill out. meanwhile my brother was collecting my fur baby’s new bed ( its huge) and the turkey. after chilling out, I prepped the turkey for the morning and we sorted our presents into our sacks, and left some doggy milk and a doggy biscuit ready for Santa paws before heading to bed.

Blogmas day 22

Hey guys, another busy day even if it didn’t go to plan. the original plan was to take my fur baby Bella to pets at home to pick out her presents and try on a new harness but unfortunately she took a small tumble before she even got there so instead she rested up at home with my brother and we ordered her things online. thank god for next day delivery.

with a plan in mind me and my sister tried to work our way through the last of the present list and tackle the very busy crowds, but once again luck wasn’t on our side and most things¬† were out of stock ūüė¶ so home we went and I’ve spent the evening making a list of what’s still to be done and brought, no longer just buying our own gifts but also doing the running around for my grandparents. also been wrapping presents and trying to figure out if we have any more room under the tree.

Blogmas day 21

hey guys, sorry yet another post is late but I warned I would¬†become busier and I’m defiantly looking forward to having a few days off and doing nothing.

As I’m getting busier the next few posts will be short ones I’m afraid,¬†mainly just¬†updates on what I’ve been up to. Monday was a regroup and plan day for our house, most of us had a slightly slower day in preparation of the mountain of things that need doing in the space of three days. not much else really to share apart from my final set of festive nails, well apart from the new years eve ones.

anyway I used Avon’s nail wear pro polishes, which apply smoothly but like all polishes thicken up and go gloopy over time. they are pretty chip resistant without a top coat, always a plus for me. they do require two coats in order to be opaque but give a lovely glossy finish. I went for the classic red and green. the green has a very subtle shimmer running through it and is called midnight green but I think its been discontinued. the red is called real red and you can still get this shade.

Blogmas day 20

Hey guys, not long now. Today has been a busy day and I have been on the go from the moment I got up, spending hours catching up on housework before a marathon baking session. I made up gingerbread dough and three pastry doughs. and I’ve not even finished all my baking and might do some more tomorrow. I managed to find the pastry and gingerbread recipes I have used previously which my brother preferred I used.



  • 350g plain flour
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 100g butter
  • 175g soft light brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4tbsp golden syrup ( I used 5)


  • preheat oven to gas mark 5 / 190 degrees c
  • put the flour, ginger and soda into a bowl and rub in the butter.
  • add sugar and stir in syrup and egg to make a firm dough.
  • I then chill the dough for 30 minutes but you don’t have to.
  • roll out the dough and cut into what ever shape you wish.
  • put on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper, leaving space for them to expand slightly and bake for 10 minutes.
  • ¬†leave to firm up for a couple of minutes before placing on a cooling rack.
  • once cooled decorate as your imagination tell you to.



  • 250g plain flour
  • 150g cold butter
  • 2 tsp icing sugar
  • 1 egg yolk (medium sized egg)
  • ¬†mincemeat/jam/lemon curd

I made double the quantity and then made a second batch, leaving me with two large batches of pastry dough ūüôā

  • put the flour in a bowl, add the butter and rub together until it resembles breadcrumbs
  • stir in the icing sugar
  • add the egg yolk and 2 eggshells full/ 4tbsp of very cold water
  • stir in with a knife and bring dough together with your hands
  • knead lightly, wrap in cling film¬†and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes
  • preheat oven to 200 degrees c/ gas mark 6
  • grease a tart tin
  • roll out the pastry and cut out as many discs as you need


  • for mince pies add a teaspoon of mincemeat and place a lid of pastry on top and glaze each with egg or milk
  • jam tarts or lemon tarts add a teaspoon of filling.
  • bake for 20 minutes
  • leave to cool on a cooling rack.



in total today I have made 40 normal sized gingerbread men, 40 mini gingerbread men ( some have been placed in a clear cellophane gift bags ready to be given as presents) 24 coconut tarts ( recipe from previous post only doubled the mix ) 12 jam tarts, 12 lemon tarts, 12 mince pies and a few sugar cookies. I think you can see why I called it a marathon baking session.

Hey guys sorry this a day late but Saturday was a day of working, putting up my dads tree and getting some planning done so this post ill share a few pics of Christmas past. The biggest picture is two Christmas’s ago and the other tree picture is last years, the one of Bella with a bone is her first Christmas, the other with her is last year, the table with the candle centre piece is from my grandparents and the other table is ours from a couple of Christmas’s ago and the last one is a picture of the prep of doing my uncles tree a few years ago.

hey guy, only a week to go so only 6 more blogmas posts after this one.

Tonight I was catching up with Kirsty’s homemade Christmas and it left me feeling inspired both craft wise and Christmas wise. there are so many small crafts you can do either by yourself, with friends and family or small children. so here’s some that hopefully inspire you.¬† I will post links to pages where you can find instructions

  • a simple one, folding a piece of paper over several times and cut pieces out and then opening it up leaving a pretty snowflake behind. You can always add glitter for a bit of sparkle and they look great hung up in a window with invisible thread.

  • personalised coffee mug. basically using a basic white mug and sharpies you customise it to your liking then put in the oven at around 180 degrees c for about half an hour. I’ve used this idea before as Christmas gifts with sweets inside.

  • home made snow globe , using and old jar, superglue a figurine or what ever you would like to the inside of the lid. fill the jar with water, glitter and glycerine¬† ( can be found in the baking aisle) don’t fill it too much as the figurine still has to go inside, screw the lid on and ta da done, now you can paint and decorate the lid and make it fancy if you wish.



Then there’s always baking weather it be a gingerbread house, a Christmas tree made of sugar cookie stars or anything else your imagination can come up with.






















Blogmas day 17

Day 17 in Santa’s grotto, his making a list, checking the stock, going to found whose got it at the best price.¬† sorry guys I couldn’t resist, I would like to say I’m in all full festive mood but I’m¬†not quiet there yet, I have a very busy week ahead, cards to write and give out( relatives I see twice a year) , presents still to source, buy and wrap ( love people telling me last minute¬†what they want), Christmas food shopping to order, Christmas baking list to write, which I will do tomorrow as hoping to spend all day Sunday baking and watching Christmas films, take the dog to the pet shop to buy her presents ( need to measure and try on harnesses and waterproof jacket, she’s a pampered girl), all this while working and doing the housework and blogging.

are you all ready for the big day or are you like me and still have plenty to makes me misses the Christmas’s of my past when I had none of this stress, just two weeks of staying with my grandparents, baking with my nana, helping wrap some presents, watching films with my uncle and then spending the big day with my family.

it would all start Christmas eve putting the mince pie and milk out for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph and then we would be in a rush to go to bed despite it being like 6pm, pretending to be asleep in the hopes of catching Santa filling up our stockings. waking up at 4am to empty our stockings and see what we got, always an orange, an apple, chocolate coins and some other goodies. my granddad would then come in and tell us to go back to sleep. come 7am when we thought we had slept enough we would go into my grandparents room and show them what Santa had left us before heading down to breakfast. we weren’t allowed to go see the presents until we had eaten and the adults were showered and dressed. then came present time, we all had a large sack each¬†that would have our presents but they usually overflowed ( we were pretty lucky) and take it in turns opening them showing everyone what we got and from whom while my granddad filmed it ( thinks the video tapes are somewhere) then it would be time to get showered and dressed in our outfit we had gotten just for Christmas and then came the time to play with the presents while the dinner was being cooked and family would arrive. there could be anywhere up to 17 of us, so you can imagine how chaotic that could be, dinner was always filling but still made room for Christmas pudding which my granddad would put coins in for us after setting it alight, so that was something to look forward to, that was followed by coffee and after eights before everyone moved into the living room for the queens speech and present time for the adults and more time to play with presents before a buffet style tea would be served and more relatives came around. us kids would play a board game and the adults all caught up and had a drink.

my grandparents always made Christmas magical and as I’ve gotten older I’ve appreciated just how much hard work they put into it. I’ve got so many memories of Christmas from my granddad nearly setting fire to his hair, to me going flying over my uncle as I charged over him( I was about 8 and his about 6 foot something) its one of the main reasons I love Christmas so much, so many happy memories and not because of the presents but because of the people and time spent together.

Hi guys, only a week until Christmas eve eeekk

Another busy day at work so I choose to relax with the fur baby before starting some more baking, this time using my nanas recipe for coconut tarts. every Christmas she would bake these so they bring back so many memories and every year I try to make them as good as her and this year has been my best attempt yet.

I have used her recipe for the pastry as well instead of making my own. this makes about 100g pastry which means about 12 tarts



100g/40z plain flour

pinch of salt

25g/1 oz. margarine ( I used a little over

25g/1 0z lard ( I used a little over)

2tbsp cold water ( I used about 2 and a half )

  • mix flour and salt in a bowl and rub in the fats
  • use a knife to mix adding in the water to form a stiff dough
  • turn dough on to a floured surface and knead lightly
  • roll out a use as required.



100g/40z short pastry


strawberry jam

50g/2oz margarine

50g/2oz caster sugar

50g/2oz desiccated coconut

1 egg

  • heat the oven to 180 degrees c/ 350 degrees f/ gas mark 4. roll out pastry thinly and cut into discs and place them in a greased tart tin



  • place half a teaspoon of jam in each one ( I added a little extra)


  • cream the margarine, sugar and add the egg and the coconut


  • place one teaspoon of mixture on top of the jam


  • bake for 20 minutes until the sponge is risen and golden brown

Place on cooling rack and enjoy when cooled.

Blogmas day 14 Baking day

hey guys, another busy day but the turkey has now been ordered and paid for and the tree is now completely decorated so thank you Morrison’s and the range.¬† had to put up with my sister pressing all the noisy Christmas toy buttons and making them dance around the floor and sing badly to get to this point. we did go to costa and enjoy a nice festive drink and cake before heading for baking supplies. so I think you can guess what I’ve been doing tonight BAKING !

anyways I decided to use a sugar cookie recipe from zoella who some of you may have heard of.

You will need…

  • For The Cookies:
  • 140g Icing Sugar
  • 1tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 250g Butter (cut into small chunks)
  • 375g Flour
  • For the Royal Icing:
  • 225g Icing Sugar
  • 1 Egg White
  • Cold Water


  • Preheat the oven to 190oC. Using a wooden spoon or a mixer, mix together the butter, icing sugar, vanilla and the egg yolk, setting the egg white aside as you will use it later! Cream together the mixture until it’s all mixed together, then add the flour. Add in the flour a little bit at a time until it is all combined to form a dough. Wrap the dough in cling film and chill it in the fridge for around 30 mins.



  • Spread some flour on the worktop and roll out the dough with a rolling pin. Using Christmassy cookie cutters, cut out shapes and carefully put them on a lined baking tray.


  • Put the tray(s) into the oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes until they are lightly golden brown. Carefully slide them off the tray and onto a cooling rack. While you wait for them to cool completely, make the icing.



  • Using a mixer, mix together the icing sugar with the egg white, and add a teaspoon at a time of cold water if it feels too thick. Spoon the mixture into a piping bag with a thin nozzle, and pipe onto the completely cooled cookies. You can then decorate with sprinkles or whatever you fancy.
